We have been working on presentation skills and gone over some key points that are important to remember with regards to effective introductions.
Introductions should include
a hook
the main points of our presentation (usually three)
effective transition words (e.g., first of all, second, finally)
I would like you to watch the following presentation by Kathryn Schulz and pay attention to the speaker's introduction.
1) What is the first thing she does? Does her introduction capture your attention? Why?
2) What are the main points of her presentation? Which transition words does she use to introduce each of these points?
Pre-listening Talk to your partner about how it feels to be wrong about something. Vocabulary: fallible, fallibility: capable/capability of making errors
Kathryn Schulz On Being Wrong (TED Talk) (Please stop watching the video @ 3:55 min - feel free to watch the rest at home though.)
Transcript is available on the TED Talks website above.
For those of you who need additional support while listening, please refer to the transcript.
